The trio opens a two-night run at Sharp 9 Gallery with State of the Art, Mason's newest album on his own label, Taylor Christian Records. Across the record, the band moves through swing, post-bop, soul, and contemporary groove, including the latest singles "Secure the Bag" and "A Good Day," all captured in a single, unrepeatable session with no more than two takes per song, a deliberate choice that pushed the band to lean on instinct over perfection.

On stage, that same lineup, Sean Mason on piano, Felix Moseholm on bass, and Domo Branch on drums, brings that same spontaneity to a live audience, giving listeners the rare chance to hear the album's material shaped in real time by the very musicians who created it in the studio.

Sharp 9 Gallery is the performance venue of the Durham Jazz Workshop, a nonprofit founded in 2012 by saxophonist Dave Finucane and artist Valerie Courreges to bring jazz education and live performance to North Carolina's Triangle region.
