Make an evening of it. On Wednesday, November 18, the Sean Mason Trio plays two sets at Edwin’s, at 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM, and the night starts early with a free masterclass at 5:00 PM. Mason is touring behind ‘State of the Art’, his latest album, released on Taylor Christian Records.
Expect music from the album, including the singles 'Secure the Bag,' which shifts between a wide, airy groove and a tight, street-beat feel, and 'A Good Day,' which settles into a warm backbeat with brushes and an easy pocket. Mason leads from the piano, joined by Mark Lewandowski on bass and Charles Goold on drums.
The masterclass is presented in partnership with Tri-C JazzFest Academy and is open to music students and the general public. Mason is a dedicated educator who regularly leads workshops and masterclasses around the world, so the session offers students and curious listeners a closer look at how he works.

ABOUT EDWIN’S
Edwin’s is a Cleveland nonprofit founded by James Beard-finalist chef Brandon Chrostowski that trains formerly incarcerated adults for careers in hospitality, with a working restaurant serving as its classroom. Its story has drawn national attention, including an Oscar-nominated documentary about Chrostowski and the restaurant. After opening its first location at Shaker Square in 2013, Edwin’s moved in early 2025 to Cedar Road in Cleveland Heights, taking over the former Nighttown, a restaurant and jazz club that had been a neighborhood fixture for roughly six decades. Live jazz has been part of the room since the move, a nod to the building’s history.
ABOUT SEAN MASON
Grammy-nominated pianist, composer, and bandleader Sean Mason has built a catalog that includes The Southern Suite, A Breath of Fresh Air, and his newest album, 'State of the Art.' His recordings have reached the upper tiers of the JazzWeek and NACC jazz charts, and his work as a leader has taken him to Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Monterey Jazz Festival, SFJAZZ, Ronnie Scott’s, Bimhuis, and Blue Note Milano. He has been recognized with a Bistro Award, a Bessie Award, and distinction as a Steinway Artist.
