Sean Mason Releases “A Good Day,” Second Single from Upcoming Album State of the Art

Jazz pianist, composer, and producer Sean Mason released "A Good Day" on September 18, 2026, through Taylor Christian Records. It follows "Secure the Bag" as the second single from State of the Art, which arrives in full on October 16, 2026, and it is the second track on the album.

Built on a warm backbeat and an easy groove, the tune draws on the feel-good records Mason grew up listening to in Charlotte. Bassist Felix Moseholm and drummer Domo Branch, the rhythm section from Mason's earlier albums, play alongside movement artists Reyna Nuñez and LeAndre Douglas.

A SOFT TOUCH

Moseholm sits deep in the pocket for the whole track. Branch plays brushes from start to finish, even as the music builds in intensity, and that restraint gives the performance its softness and buoyancy.

When Mason first played the tune for Nuñez, she told him it reminded her of listening to Mary J. Blige while growing up in Brooklyn. He took to the comparison right away.

"I love that connection because the tune really does evoke that sense of warmth and optimism." - Sean Mason

THE MUSIC VIDEO

The visual for "A Good Day" keeps the musicians and dancers in one shared space. Nuñez sits beside Mason on the piano bench, absorbed in the music and responding to the groove with her body. Douglas eventually rises and dances through the room. Movement comes out of the performance itself rather than being set apart from it.

Watch the official music video for “A Good Day” on YouTube, where Sean Mason’s quartet blends lyrical piano, bass, and brushwork with dancers responding in real time.

PLAYING WITH DANCERS

The single was recorded in the same studio session as the rest of the album, with no more than two takes of each studio composition. For Mason, the trio's purpose on this record was about bringing out the best in each player.

"I wanted to play with dancers instead of playing for dancers." - Sean Mason

Listeners who want the full record can get State of the Art as a digital album.
